Why Your Content Needs To Be In The Organic Listings On Google

by Mark Salmon on 20/07/2010

Google has 60 to 70% of the global online search market, so getting your online content ranked highly by Google is vitally important.

You can of course buy your business onto page one of Google using paid advertising i.e. Google Adwords.  You can also get exposure on page one by registering your business with Google Maps and the free directories.

However, research has shown that the organic listings are a much more important source of traffic.  It is highly educational to study the heat map below which illustrates where searchers look on a page of search results.  The red areas indicate the most studied areas of the page.

The next graphic illustrates which entries on the page receive the most number of clicks.  It illustrates that the number one free listing gets 22 times more clicks than the number one paid ad.  The second organic result gets 10 times the traffic of the #1 paid ad.

These graphics illustrate that free or organic search listings are perceived as far more valuable to the searcher than paid search.

That is why Web Marketing Machines has been developed for local businesses – to help my clients to dominate the organic listings for their chosen keywords.
