Why The Internet Represents An Incredible Business Opportunity

In this article I will attempt to explain why I think the internet represents an incredible business opportunity.

I am certainly not alone in thinking this – as you can see from this caption, Peter Drucker, one of the leading business gurus in the world, has stated that ‘Webucation’ is the next great growth opportunity.

That’s why I have aligned myself with a young, talented company in America that is delivering internet marketing education to small businesses.

They are effectively empowering all their students to set up their own niche, home-based businesses, or to coach others to do so, or to sell their online marketing expertise to the many established small businesses that need to improve their online presence.

Several key factors in recent years have empowered what I predict will be a wave of online entrepreneurialism.

Firstly, the establishment of the internet, which is still in its infancy, followed by the introduction of broadband.

Greater broadband speeds are powering the delivery of video-based tutorials and there is increasing evidence that this is the preferred medium of online surfers.

It is predicted that 90% of online content viewed will be delivered by video within the next few years, rising from 70% currently.

Google were no fools when they bought the You Tube brand.  Whilst they paid $1.65billion dollars for You Tube, and many commentators think they paid double what it is worth, it is an astounding fact that over one billion videos are served per day by You Tube.

Also, many of the tools for getting online have been simplified and the cost reduced to virtually nothing, other than your time, if you know how to access them.

It is now possible to set up a web page in minutes, promoting your business for no cost whatsoever.  Also, where paid advertising through Google was once the preferred method of getting traffic to your web page, social marketing has exploded together with such methods as content sharing, article marketing and video marketing.

In these recessionary times, one area of the economy continues its relentless rise – that is peoples usage of the internet and the rise in the amount of goods and services bought online.  Because of the speed, efficiency and the number of options available, the internet has become the primary method for doing research, making purchasing decisions and even entertainment.

Coupled with the rise in numbers of people going online to look for information and a solution to their problems, is an explosion in the number of business opportunities.  The reason for this is that it makes more and more niches, and micro-niches, viable as businesses.

Typically, people will type keywords into the search engine to find what they are looking for.  The more people going online, the more keywords they are generating and more micro niches open up.  If you place a web page on the internet that exactly matches the keywords with the solution the person is looking for – bingo, you may have a sale.

However, most of the time a sale will not be made on first contact so you have to acquire expertise in something called Attraction Marketing.  This is nothing more or less than offering attractive information in exchange for the surfers contact details i.e. educating your prospect.

Providing your information is sufficiently valuable, you may earn the right to sell your product or service somewhere down the line.  This however brings into play other skill sets such as email marketing and copywriting skills.

However, having trained myself in internet marketing, I am now of the opinion that anyone that owns a computer can successfully launch their own business online.  It is not necessary, or indeed desirable, to have all the skill-sets required as out-sourcing is very cheap and accessible, enabling you to concentrate on your own strengths.

You may feel that you simply don’t have a product or service to offer – in the online world this is not a problem.  You can earn a commission as affiliate marketer by selling other peoples products, or you can re-purpose and re-package other peoples products and offer them to different markets, or you can easily create your own product around a particular passion, skill or interest you may have.

The possibilities are almost limitless and very exciting!  You may think that you have missed the boat – not so:

The skills to get online and to create valuable content are easy and relatively cheap to acquire, assuming you can devote some time to acquiring them.  Technically they are not hard but you do have to have the motivation to acquire them.

For me, that motivation is powered by the possibility that what is currently happening on the internet has the power to resolve a large chunk of the current unemployment problems.  In fact, the opportunities are so vast that anyone has the opportunity to set up a viable, low-cost business from their home and turn it into a multi-million pound business.

Ironically, the younger generation, who have been so badly affected by unemployment, are the very people that have the technical skills to go online.  However, our current education system seems blind to the opportunities, and the potential that those computer skills have for our young people, to establish an online business based around their passions and interests.
