Internet Marketing UK – Can It End Age Discrimination?

Shakespeare would love internet marketing

Internet Marketing in the UK – can it end the age discrimination that is currently being reported by the media?

Apparently many people over the age of 50 feel that they are on the scrap-heap because they cannot find employment.

In most other cultures, even cultures that we regard as ‘less-civilised’, the old folk are valued  members of their family and community, offering the wisdom and common-sense that only comes with age.  It is therefore a tragedy that our society is not fully valuing the contribution that older people can make to our society.

I truly believe that there is plenty of employment available for those that are willing to learn a new skill-set, such as internet marketing.   The opportunities for employment are almost boundless.  For older people who have skills and advice born from experience, the opportunities are thick on the ground.

We are in a pioneering stage with the internet and the search engines are trying to separate the valuable content from the inconsequential.  There is a massive opportunity in inumerable niches to provide truly valuable content to those searching for it online.  Far better that this content is generated by people with actual experience, than those merely spinning other peoples content who have no hands-on experience of what they are writing about.

Of course it is difficult to to identify what you have to offer of value to other people.  For that you need to ‘go deep’ – to look beyond the immediately obvious.  By that I mean that you must search beyond the superficial and trivial in order to deliver authentic and valuable material.

To give you an example.  We have just moved house and taken on a project of renovating a house.  It would be perfectly possible to create a website that chronicles how we go about the renovation, the processes we went through and the results.

Whilst I have no doubt that we are making many mistakes, other people can learn from our mistakes.

On the other hand, I have discovered how to reduce the cost of curtain fabric from £46 per metre to £16 per metre.  Also, how to paint the eaves of my house safely and more cost effectively without scaffolding and how to reduce the cost of my kitchen by 50% from the initial estimate I received.  The total savings so far are in the region of £7,000 and we have only just started the renovation project!

I can guarantee that every person with any experience of life can help others by sharing those experiences.  You just need to abandon lazy thinking and go from a attitude of scarcity to one of abundant opportunity – because that is what there is … abundant opportunity to help other people and they will pay you to the extent of the value you offer.

So, yes, I believe internet marketing UK can solve many of our employment problems.  We just need to acknowledge the fact that we have become a ‘knowledge’ economy and adapt accordingly.
