Business authenticity is an important ingredient of online success and indeed business success. It is one of the reasons that video is set to dominate the internet.
Watching my 4 month old granddaughter in the bath reminded me about ‘business authenticity’.
Floating on her back, her face framed with bubbles, she proceeded to quite naturally put both big toes in her mouth and suck them.
Try that yourself and you will understand that this takes a wonderful virtuosity of movement and balance.
Thinking about this in relationship to business, I think that we all too often put up ‘a front’ – the face that we think people want to see in order to win their custom. Yet being natural and totally authentic, warts and all, is far more powerfully magnetic as an attractive force.
Now I’m not suggesting that you have to float in a bath sucking your big toes. What I am saying is that communicating and acting naturally is a far more powerful force in building a relationship with anyone. I think online video marketing helps to break down some of the barriers.
Hearing the business owner speak directly, enthusiatically and passionately about his products and services, demonstrating them and even fielding questions about them, brings the business alive for the customer.
We all have trade secrets and a deep understanding of what we have to offer that a customer hungers to know before the point of sale. As customers we all want to be certain that we have fully considered every angle before we take the plunge in order not to experience buyers remorse.
Thinking about the purchases I make, often the decision as to which supplier I will use is made in the first few seconds if I feel the ‘salesman’ is totally natural and authentic. It makes me feel comfortable that he is not hiding information from me when my questions are answered naturally and authentically.
Often I don’t mind paying a higher price, if that is justified by the quality and benefits and these are properly explained to me. Being totally comfortable with a salesman, also gives you the liberty to question what he is saying. If I don’t feel comfortable doing this, I walk away with a vague promise to get in touch or ‘to think about it’.
So ‘business authenticity’ has much to do with naturalness – but sucking your big toes in front of a customer may appear somewhat eccentric. But why not consider using video marketing to boost your authenticity with potential online customers?
